ten

This is how we spend most of our day. This kid can EAT.

10 pounds. 1-0. Ten.

That is what Gabriel weighed at his one month appointment last Monday afternoon*. For those of you keeping score at home, that is 3 pounds gained in 3 weeks. We are in a bit of shock over here. The pediatrician said we should bottle me up and send me to Africa to feed the children.

He has to slow down, right? At this rate, I'm going to have to figure out where to put him ASAP, since his bassinet only goes up to 15 pounds. He'll be 15 pounds by, what, next week?

This explains a lot, actually. It explains why he can't straighten his legs in the sleepers I keep putting on him, umm, because they are apparently too small. It also explains why we were having poop blowouts multiple times per day. Poop blowouts in the Newborn Pampers, the Newborn Pampers that go to 10 pounds. I'm so relieved, because it is a little disconcerting when you fill a whole washing machine with clothing all covered in poop. Clothing produced in 24 hours. I was running out of clean clothes, and that is saying a lot because we have a lot of clean clothes.

Gabe looks so big to me now, with his double chin and chubby cheeks. Other people comment on how tiny he is, but what I see are the rolls on his thighs and the dimples on his knuckles. But I'm ecstatic to know that he is growing well.

********************

A good indication of life with a newborn? It took me a week to finish this short post!

hooray for fatty mama milk and a healthy, growin' boy! :) you sound so happy. :)

julian has been growing like mad too (though ava did as a baby as well so it was sort of expected). and yes, he will slow down once he gets mobile. until ava started crawling, she was a serious roly-poly, and weighed 20 lbs. by 4 months. ;)

a tip someone gave me is to buy the next bigger size of dipes if they are getting within a few pounds of the top weight. they will hold a lot more pee (which is what i needed for julian) or poop (for gabe). :)

Sounds like he is doing wonderful!

I have never had a baby that could wear, without accidents, a diaper up to the intended weight. When you start getting leaks or exploding poo it is usually a good sign that the baby needs a bigger diaper.

You both look great!

Ah, the washing machine full of poop-stained clothing....I remember those days! For years, everything I wore had some sort of baby-related stain on them. The stains were EVERYWHERE! Now, all my stuff is still stained, but it's because I can't seem to manage to hit my mouth when I eat. :)

Great work on the checkup! And you said you weren't gonna be any good at this mama business! Like a natural!

I could *easily* be the one in that picture above. With both of our children, I always used the laptop while nursing! hehe :) Hey, you gotta score some online time when you can. :) Glad you guys are doing well!

Wow 10 lbs! I'll be lucky if Sean weighs 8 or 9 by his 2 month checkup!

My babies get big fast too (though they don't start small, either). Our son was 18lb at 3 months. He'll be 2 next month and has been in size 6 diapers for at least 6 or 7 months. We've gone through a lot of shoe sizes and clothing sizes. It's amazing how they can grow!!! But not that great for our poor backs (or bank accounts).

I LOVE him! While you're bottling yourself up to ship you off to feed the world, pack him up and send him to meeeeeeee! Little Mister wants his friend to come and play.

That's kind of like what my daughter's PED said about me when she was first born. My girl went down to 5lb3oz at her first official out of office weigh in on a Friday and the PED was worried. We went back in on Monday and my girl was up almost a pound. A POUND! The PED said "WOW! You were born to nurse!" So keep going. Sounds like your son is doing fabulous. Growing just like a baby should!

You look great and hooray for your big boy! I laughed at that photo because I typed all my blog posts one-handed for at least a few months after K was born.
