you people with your sock fetishes...

Who knew that you all felt so passionately about socks? Josh and I spent a good hour on Sunday afternoon chuckling over all your answers. I am happy to see that I have been vindicated, except apparently when socks are worn while engaging in naughty activities. Josh wins on that one.

I am feeling wholly braindead on the blogging front. Plus, I'm having trouble sleeping at night. This is very disturbing, because if there is one thing I need, it is my sleep. I can't figure out what is going on with me, but it had better stop soon. I was pleased to read in my gardening book that during the month of January we gain an extra hour of sunlight. So if my inability to sleep has to do with being seasonally affected, maybe the extra sunlight will help.

The other thing that might help, will be a vacation to a warm spot. And since all of you were so helpful on the 3 day trip Josh and I took, plus you are all so opinionated on socks, I want your assistance on the vacation front!

Here is the caveat, however. We don't have a dogsitter, so we have to bring the pooches along. We have fun with them and they are very mobile, but it is a bit of a bummer because we'd hoped to meet friends in London and London doesn't allow dogs.

Anyway, we are looking for a warm location, preferably beach, and we have to be able to bring the dogs. Dogs are permitted in the Caribbean, Mexico and Puerto Rico, in addition to all the other US States except Hawaii.

Oh, and we don't have lots of expendable funds so it has to be cheap. What about all of these vacation spots I hear people talking about in North Carolina or South Carolina, or any of those other states I've never visited. Are they warm in March?

This is what I'd like to be doing:

I'll even bring you back a present from one of these exotic dog friendly locations if you provide me with a fantastically wonderful vacation! I'll come up with something.

Oh, man! I wish I had vacationing advice, but I am sorely lacking in the vacation department. I'll have to take notes on the other comments you get.

Good luck with the sleep. Stay away from caffeine!

Re: Sleep. Drink more water during the day. And make yourself a ritual at night --- about half an hour before you're going to get into bed, turn off the tv(computer, etc), do your ablutions and dim the lights. Then do something soothing. THe same thing everytime. It really helps.

Oh! And about the vacation, NC and SC can often be very pleasant in March, but it's iffy. Florida's a better bet.

I live in NC and this time of year you can either be having 60 to 70 degree weather or 20 degree weather, and the same with SC. You could go to Charlston, SC and see the beautiful old southern mansions but can't count on it being warm. If you stay in the states you would love Key West and it is very pet friendly, warm and lots to do. Has the best sunsets in the world there! Great scuba diving and snorkeling spots and lots of old beautiful southern homes! If you go to Mexico I would recommend Cozumel. Parts of it has bars, shops, tourist things and the other side of the island is undeveloped. You can go to town square on saturday night and dance in the street to local bands and talk with the locals. There are great places to scuba dive or snorkel. Go to market square and barter for silver, black coral, blankets, baskets, etc for next to nothing. Food and drink is very inexpensive. My favorite place in all of mexico.Your doggies will love it too. And they have their own water purification system and you can drink it without any problem.

Well, Florida--the west coast if you want more quiet, the east coast if you want more action. You could wait a little and do the Hilton Head thing, I suppose.

Never been to Cali, but it sounds fabulous :)

There are many hotels that accept the poochie family members. Sounds like a blast-in-the-making to me.

Okay, it's not actually cheap, but I am of the opinion that there is never a bad time to visit San Diego. It will definitely be warm in March and you can go to Mexico on day trips and shop.

My parents from the Sunny West Coast of FL go to the Keys with their dog because it is known as a dog friendly place, is less expensive than the carribean and just as fun.

It can be more expensive to fly into Key West than Miami. The drive through the keys is gorgeous. Or, if you feel like it, it is only and hour and 45 minutes from Miami to Islamorada, about 1/3 down the way to Key West.

It is much quieter and resort like on Islamorada.

What is this "vacation" thing of which you speak? I am not familiar with this word.

Mr. Blue spends all winter fanatsizing about real estate in Dan Diego, so that would be his vacation vote. If we knew what a vacation was, I mean.

Hey, I just asked the Internets the exact same question (except without pooches). You can see everyone's opinions here:

We ended up, of course, ignoring them all and picking a fabulous resort in Puerto Rico. It's a little pricy, but verrrry exciting.

HL -- I live here in the south (email me if you want to know specifically where)and our weather is very temperate. It's actually fairly nice right now. We have antebellum homes, beach, some shopping. And, if you decided to come this way. of course, we'd have to do a meet-up! I could meet you for a good, old-fashioned Southern lunch! Email me. I'd love for you to come here since I'll probably NEVER get to Boston! Oh, and Tango and Murray would be welcome. You can check for dog-friendly hotels if you decide to come this way.

Charleston, South Carolina is a great springtime vacation....tons of good food, sightseeing, and also relaxing....I would recommend staying at the Vendue Inn, it was fabulous and I think they did allow pets. I believe you can fly there directly from Logan.

Oooh, some of these suggestions sound great. I hope that you have a wonderfully warm and relaxing vacation...

I'm sad that you don't have a dogsitter though, as we could have perhaps met for lunch or something if you'd been in London. Having said that, London is certainly not warm in March!

Enjoy the planning and I hope you are able to sleep much better soon. :)

If you want warm in the spring, you will probably have to go further south than the Carolinas. As liz mentioned, those states are pretty iffy.

As for the sleeping, I have no serious advice b/c I normally cannot sleep myself. On a humorous note, borrowing a newborn would make you sleep like the dead.

If you want to stop by Cincy en route to warm vacation spot, I would gladly watch those adorable doggies. So long as they won't try to intimidate my cats with their fabulous fashion sense!

Gosh I have no idea on dog friendly vacations. Have you looked at travelocity to see if there are perhaps and specials running?

Whatever you chose I shall be infinitely jealous :-)

I adore Charleston, S.C. We went there on our honeymoon in early June, and it was H-O-T so it would probably be lovely in March.

I second klee's suggestion - come visit meeeeeeee! :) Eutaw's a lovely vacation spot. We have ... um ... three dollar stores!!! Yeah!
