how good?

6 ounces gained in 3 days good.

Back to our birth weight good.

Our first visit to the pediatrician yesterday was spectacular. Apparently, I have a breastfeeding piggy on my hands, which is such a relief! The pediatrician cracked up laughing as soon as he was weighed, because apparently gaining 6 ounces in 3 days is unheard of. I was especially surprised since the quantity of poop that results from this teeny baby is ridiculous! We have had a few poop blowouts that left me doubled over on the couch laughing. Yesterday Josh started to change a poopy diaper, so Gabe peed all over him. Once he'd cleaned up the pee, and started to pull the clean diaper over, Gabe sent a huge glob of poop straight onto the couch. We are a barrel of laughs around here.

We're also especially happy around here because last night Gabriel slept for a 4 hour stretch, then a 3 hour stretch and then a 2 hour stretch. Waking up in the middle of a deep sleep is still hard, I'm struggling not to fall over in bed with him in my arms, but it is sooo much easier after 3 or 4 hours. I spend the 45 minutes or so while he is feeding staring at his little face and little hands and rubbing my hands along his ears and head and toes. I cannot believe that this beautiful baby came out of my belly.

I cannot believe I love him this much.

look at those little toes! he is such a lovely baby. and all that hair! [my daughter was basically bald until she was 2.]

glad he is a good eater! my son loved nursing, so much that my friends started calling him "the michelin man" after a few months. he wasn't ever fat once he started running around, just healthy and sturdy. at 19, he is muscular and still growing. i can still see him as a baby, though, and remember how perfectly he fit in our arms. [he would die of embarassment if i said that now, so i'll save it for when he has a baby -- which i hope will not be anytime immediate.]

we had a stack of waterproof things covered in flannel, very portable and well used for changings and under the babe at bedtime [for leaks]. didn't take long to learn that babies can make a real mess! pretty soon, you and dad will be setting world speed records for diaper changes, which also cuts down on ambient by-products.

He's truly precious and cute! You're sooo lucky have your son back at his birth weight... we have a while to go until that happens, but now that I'm breastfeeding PROPERLY, it's all good and will happen in good time!

Baby toes are delicious! I am happy to hear you have a good eater and that you are getting a few hours of sleep at a time. Isn't motherhood the grandest thing?

Way to go, Gabriel! Keep being a good eater and a good sleeper, and Mama will be SO grateful -- you just won't KNOW how grateful she'll be! :)

Love the yummy toes! What is it about baby toes that we just want to gobble them up? Many kisses, and wishes for many more restful nights!

Congrats on the weight gain and sleep! Isn't it empowering to know he's growing so well on your milk alone? :) You need one of those shirts that says "I make milk. What's your superpower?" I happen to know where they are sold. ;)
Love the pic of his feet. Beautiful!

Maybe this only works if you're co-sleeping, but after a week or two with Camilla, my sleep cycles aligned with hers and it became much easier to wake up for the night feedings.

He's just beautiful, and you sound very happy. I'm so glad for you!

Congratulations! Your baby is absolutely beautiful. I love the photo of him posting on 1/9. He looks like such a content baby.

Gabe will benefit from mama's milk for the rest of his life. You are a wonderful mother already.

Oh, and I wanted to mention that it might be wise to keep a cloth of some sort at your diaper changing station. The moment the diaper comes off the front of him the cloth goes on. I had three boys and they all peed on me for those first few months. You can use a hand towel, washcloth, whatever. You've probably already figured this out.

Best wishes to you all.
